Ukraine, Kazakhstan: expert meeting EITI in the coal industry
February 12 Institute for Sustainable Development initiated a meeting of experts in the coal EITI Gala with Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Expert meeting was held within the project "Transparency of financial flows in the coal mining sector in Ukraine" with the support of the "Civil Society and Good Governance" International Fund "Renaissance."
During the meeting, experts discussed the question of the process of declaring profits coal mines in Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Another item on the meeting was to discuss the desire to ensure transparency in the mining and selling coal Kazakh and Ukrainian companies.

Transparency coal mining companies through the eyes of trade unions
Institute of Sustainable Development made a sociological study of miners' perspectives volume of funds directed to the fulfillment of social obligations coal mines in Ukraine. The study was conducted within the project "Transparency of financial flows in the coal mining sector in Ukraine" with the support of the "Civil Society and Good Governance" International Renaissance Fundation.
Volunteers of Institute of Sustainable Development surveyed employees coal mining companies and representatives of trade unions on volume of funds directed to the fulfillment of social obligations coal mines in Ukraine.

Finance of Ukrainian coal from the point of transparency
Experts of project "Transparency of financial flows in the coal mining sector in Ukraine" financial analysis components of the national program "Ukrainian Coal", implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Mines, and tried to verify the payment of the coal sector and revenues to state and local budgets.
Coal industry experts was chosen not by chance, because contributions from coal mining sector are a significant part of the revenue part of the national budget (31 billion. From coal and 24 billion - from coke production, representing almost 19% of the revenue budget).

Experts are concerned about the spread of "energy poverty" in Kharkiv
October 21-22 in Kharkiv started seminar-training "Identification problems for public policy analysis, stakeholder analysis and consultation with the public". The study of wind energy potential: WSB and ISD
Experts of the German company of WSB (one of the leaders in renewable energy in Europe) and experts of ISD began a joint study on wind energy potential in the territory of Ukraine.
The first visit of an engineering team of WSB in Ukraine - a full-scale scientific expedition. Studies have been undertaken of potential sites for the installation of anemometers in Kharkiv, Poltava, Nikolaev, Kherson, Zaporozhye and Dnepropetrovsk regions.

How much is Ukrainian coal?
Accident in coal-company "Sukhodolska East" (combining "Krasnodonugol") and Bazhanov coal-company (association "Makeyevvuhillya") July 29, 2011 confirmed the claim, as defined by results of numerous investigations: every 1 million tons of Ukrainian Coal mining is worth a life. "How much is actually Ukrainian coal?" and "How transparent financial flows in the coal mining area in Ukraine?" - to answer these questions a new project of the Institute for Sustainable Development "Transparency of financial flows in the coal mining sector in Ukraine", which is supported by the International Renaissance Fundation.
Goal of project "Transparency of financial flows in the coal mining sector in Ukraine" is the creation of effective mechanisms to increase transparency of financial flows in the mining sector in Ukraine, using tools to ensure transparency of the Extractive Industries (EITI).

Today's land market in Ukraine: how much people sell arable land?
Coalition of NGOs "Transparency land", coordinated by Institute of Sustainable Development, held a public monitoring conditions entering the agricultural land market in Ukraine.
The initiative is implemented in the framework of international project "Facilitation of cross-border dialogue to ensure public participation in decision-making land," which is implemented by Institute of Sustainable Development (Ukraine) and Association «Civitas Georgica» (Georgia) with support from Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation.
National monitoring the readiness of the population to implement the agricultural land market held coalition of NGOs "transparent earth" in 128 administrative districts of 24 regions of Ukraine.

Introduction: The Law of Ukraine "On State Land Cadastre"
Coalition of NGOs "Transparency land" (coordinated by Institute of Sustainable Development) offers a view, so to speak, from within, adopted on July 7, 2011 Law of Ukraine "On State Land Cadastre".
The coalition's new law was accompanied by his project to the public debate and make session hall of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. It should be noted that the provision of transparent and open public land registry is one of the main tasks of the coalition, which operates since 2007. It is a coalition of "transparent earth" was developed and tested principles of open land registry, which finally approved by Parliament.

Visit of Director of WSB - the leader of wind energy in Germany
Long-awaited visit of Director of WSB - the leader of wind energy in Germany.
This visit - the beginning of a long-term positive cooperation in the field of alternative energy with German companies. As part of this visit, the participants familiarized themselves with the potential fields for the installation of wind generators in the Kharkiv region, established protocols of intent for further cooperation.
Established in 1997 as a visionary idea of Andreas Dorner and his father Achim Dorner, WSB advanced considerably until today. Not only innovation and courage have always been characteristic for the growth of the group but also realistic forecasts and well considered decisions. Expansion plans will not be implemented until the risk of a new market entrance is calculable and we feel certain that created jobs can be staffed in the long run. This strategy ensured a stable growth of the company and avoided bad planning. Bearing in mind the success of this strategy, we will pursue it in the future.

Science Day 2011
This year, the Institute of Sustainable Development went to the Science Day in Kupyansk, where he visited the city gymnasium.

Visit to the Centre for Energy Efficiency Volma
May 11-15, organized a visit to the Educational-Scientific Complex "International Environmental Park Volma - demonstration area of renewable energy and energy-saving technologies (Belarus). International Innovative Environmental Park Volma offers visitors an opportunity to get acquainted with the unique combination of advanced energy technologies, advanced information tools of education, national historical and cultural heritage and natural resources of Belarus.
The park is located on the territory of one of the oldest in Belarus gentry estates and is a picturesque, slightly rugged terraces and floodplain of the small river Volmyanka. Since 2001, the estate included in the list of historical and cultural values of the Republic of Belarus declared its cultural and historical monument. Today the manor and its lands belong to the International State A.D. Sakharov Ecological University . Completed training and hotel complex Volma, which will have virtually autonomous energy supply system through the use of environmentally friendly ways to get wind, solar, water and biomass.

International Conference "Strategies for implementing land reform"
April 29, 2011 in Kharkiv, an international conference "Strategy of Land Reform", organized by the Institute for Sustainable Development and the Kharkiv Karazin National University in partnership with specialized committees in the field of land relations Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Georgian Parliament and the Bundestag of Germany and the Association "Civitas Georgica" (Georgia). The event is part of the international project "Facilitation of cross-border dialogue to ensure public participation in decision-making ground" funded Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation. The conference is the elaboration of a common strategy for further implementation of land reform in Ukraine, given the conditions of rational use and protection of land, and participation in decision-making in land relations. The recommendations will be submitted for consideration of the state land agency in Ukraine.

Today Ukraine marks Day of Land Surveyor
"Land - the fundamental national wealth that is under special state protection", - the Land Code of Ukraine. One of the most pressing land issues in the field of land relations today is the division of state and municipal property. Day Land Surveyor - celebrated in Ukraine every year since 2000 on the second Saturday of March. Date established by the Decree of President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma № 1556/99 of 11 December 1999 on the bottom land surveyor in support of the initiative of the State Committee for Land Resources and Land Surveyors of the Union and Ukraine in light of land reform on the rational use and conservation of land resources. Development of society at all times was associated with the land, which now remains the primary means to human existence and the source of social wealth.
ISD for this holiday timed meeting with representatives of the land Gosudartsvennogo Agency for Land Resources. Citizens could ask questions that concern them, and get answers and explanations officials.
